We use so many different materials, they are just impossible to list. Browse through the site and you will see a large variety of materials, and we are constantly adding more. We try to hand pick the wood we use or we have a trusted source that has never failed to supply the ultimate in stabilized exotic woods. You can see some pictures of woods here. We very much prefer to use stabilized woods for the wooden pens.

What is stabilized wood? The woods are impregnated with resins using a sophisticated process of pressure and vacuum to ensure the resins completely fill the pen blank. This strengthens the wood substantially and allows us to use materials that were to soft to be used previously. The burl woods we prefer have no strengthening grain structure, if they are not stabilized, some of them tend to literally fall apart when turned to the thickness required for your pen. Stabilizing them not only gives them tremendous strength, but also waterproofs the woods and provides great wear resistance! One other advantage of stabilizing is the use of dyes in the resin. When you look through this site and see red or blue woods, these have been dyed when they were stabilized. It is even possible to double and triple dye woods!

The pen world also has a massive amount of plastics, phelonics, acrylics and laminates available. The variety is seemingly endless. You can take a look here and see some examples of what is out there.

Do you have some wood that is special to you? we can make you a keepsake from it. We can even have it stabilized to enhance the durability and appearance of your special wood. Contact us about it!

  PLating

AS you can see from looking around this site, there is a wide variety in the types of metal plating available. All of these different types have different wear characteristics. Gold plating is typically 10k or 24k and vary in durability due to the plating method used. Standard plating is an economical and fairly durable finish. Next we have an upgraded plating where the pieces are individually hung and plated, this is slightly more expensive and more durable. Finally we get into the Titanium, Platinum and Cobalt plating. These metals are used as an undercoat that will bond at a molecular level and produce the absolute tops in durability, for a price. We offer pens with every type of plating available.
